The Scion tC gets its first major overhaul this fall, when the 2011 edition arrives at U.S. dealers. The sporty coupe will feature a larger, more powerful engine and new transmissions.

As part of its first major redesign since its 2004 launch, the tC is being fitted with a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque, compared with 161 hp and 162 lb-ft for the 2.4-liter unit that powers the current model. Toyota said the 2.5 also will get better fuel economy and will be equipped with a sport-tuned exhaust system.

    front looks like a civic, rear just looks ugly, kinda looks like something gm designed.
    I rather stick with the old scion tc.

  4. unresolved777 Said,

    @idiotfieldmouse …
    @idiotfieldmouse yeah i thought for sure they would do a completly different car, considering the Toyota Avensis is on a different chassis, i thought they would have changed it for the tC as well….. after looking at this tC again though, and the current Lexus IS series, they should keep the front end of this tC and style the back like the current IS series, it would have looked better. and maybe do a dual exhaust too… but then again im no chief designer.

  5. idiotfieldmouse Said,

    @unresolved777 …
    @unresolved777 Exactly I know they didn’t physically lengthen the car just the way the roof-line sits all flat makes it appear to be longer. The only thing I do like about the new one is the steering wheel. The old one wasn’t bad and when I heard they were giving it a full redo for 2011 I thought for sure they would change it more drastically than they did.

  7. unresolved777 Said,

    @idiotfieldmouse …
    @idiotfieldmouse nah, its not too long, same exact 106.3 inch wheel base chassis carried over from the current tC, and over all same 174inch length, 55-ish inch height , width increased from 69.1 to 70.3…. give or take .xx on all those number so over all same dimensions, its the longer roof line and rear 1/4 window cut that throws it off really.

  8. unresolved777 Said,

    @NigguhJason im …
    @NigguhJason im interested in this new sport tuned intake manifold design that is vehicle specific to the tC as well as th sport tuned exhaust and the new suspension set up with 16in brake rotors in the front. cuz 16in is huge for such a small car. the Lexus LFA uses 15in rotors, why 16 in in a little sport coupe?

  9. unresolved777 Said,

    @NigguhJason 179lbs …
    @NigguhJason 179lbs ft tq is just a number i pulled out cuz this engine ranges from 169-179 lbs ft tq so i just said the highest tq value. but i agree, like you said its heavier extra safety features. more air bags, assists. my 05 has 3 air bags and ABS, nothing else.

  10. idiotfieldmouse Said,

    Well…congrats …
    Well…congrats Scion way to ruin that car. Looks terrible…like they made it too long or something. Maybe my view will change when I see the first one at my nearby Scion dealership…or maybe it’ll be even worse than I can believe

    @unresolved777

    @unresolved777

    179lbs ft? The description above says its gonna be 173lbs ft. I still don’t think its going to be much faster than the current model. I think its because of the extra weight its going to put on. A lot car makers tend to do this, even if the car is sporty or sports car they happen to make the car roomy therefore adding weight. Also extra weight from the new tech stuff that’s going into the car.

  15. unresolved777 Said,

    @NigguhJason new …
    @NigguhJason new Camry motor, the AR engine, is 2.5L 180hp 179ft lbs tq, same thing as whats going in this new tC.

  16. unresolved777 Said,

    let me see…. same …
    let me see…. same AWD chassis as the current tC.. bigger, slightly powerful engine, 6 speed transmission, and nice 18in wheels… yup interchangable parts. engine/tranny swap, and throw on some of those wheels on my 05 tC and im good to go… cuz im deffinetly not feeling that rear end nor that Scion Fuse 1/4 window cut.

  17. NSX86R Said,

    @DemonOfRazgriz89 …
    @DemonOfRazgriz89 Right on, no RWD no interest.

  18. Apoth3cary Said,

    @mellowdalyricist I …
    @mellowdalyricist I know it does, on a car with a lot of power its a good idea, BUT, a Scion tC will have not too much wheelspin, its only got 180hp, and its all Under the weight of the engine up front, not under the relatively light rear end of the car. It would not be worth the extra price to have AWD on this car, at least not for me, I live ina good warm climate, it never snows or gets icy really

  19. mellowdalyricist Said,

    @Apoth3cary awd …
    @Apoth3cary awd adds traction = less wheel spin = faster times..

  20. NSX86R Said,

    @NSX86R Well awd …
    @NSX86R Well awd is not just design for performance but also stability giving traction to all wheels.

    I know not everyone’s needs are the same. So living in a dense urban area you may not need awd or if you live in the neck of the woods on dirt roads awd might sound more appealing.

    OR I could wait the FT86.

  21. NSX86R Said,

    @Apoth3cary AWD …
    @Apoth3cary AWD will actually lower that cars 0-60 due to weight.” LOL Really, then how much more weight are we talking about 145lbs?

    The boxer engine gives you low center of gravity, so when you take a corner your car will less likely to produce body roll as much. combined with an symmetrical awd which balances the weight of the car evenly, unlike other awd’s that add componets to their existing fwd or rwd platform. Subaru builds there’s from the ground up.

  22. Apoth3cary Said,

    @nemesis3001 The …
    @nemesis3001 The Camaro is built on a foor door platform, who cares, no such thing as a four dour platform anyway, its just a platform, but can be used either way. The Scion is not a coupe version of any car, its just a little boxier, because they used the Scion Fuse concepts styling for some reason

  23. Apoth3cary Said,

    @NSX86R a 2.5L, and …
    @NSX86R a 2.5L, and Subarus may get AWD, but why does a 2.5L need AWD, unless you live in the cold, its useless for a car with such little power, AWD will actually lower that cars 0-60 due to weight. I looked at it on Edmunds, you cant get a Impreza with the same standard features for that price…..the options list on that car is so long. Scion doesnt have trim levels and all that blah blah

  24. NSX86R Said,

    @kaunghtut …
    @kaunghtut Hopefully we will see Toyota fulfill the FT86 soon. Maybe bring some enthusiasm back in Toyota.

  25. NSX86R Said,

    @Apoth3cary Plus …
    @Apoth3cary Plus calm down, it’s nothing to get worked up over a car dude.
